Young Dubliners – June 27 (6PM – 8PM)

Young Dubliners

The Young Dubliners consider themselves the ambassadors of Celtic and American rock. The band members’ dual Irish and American heritage offers a distinctive and richly varied musical palette. The instrumental “Saiorse” featuring Kenny Wayne Shepard is a prime example of how the “Dubs” maintain their identity as both Irish and American songwriters. According to lead singer Keith Roberts, their name means ‘freedom’ in Gaelic and that means they have the liberty to take this style of music and push and pull it in every direction. The vibe of the songs goes from Irish to rock back to Irish with Kenny’s wild blues on top of it. “We’ve always defied pigeonholing because our sound is the grooving result of Irish and American guys coming together and drawing from a little bit of everything” Roberts explains.

Not surprisingly, the Young Dubliners have hit the road again on a popular and extensive tour of North America.

Later, there was a successful solo career through the ’70s and early ’80s that also saw him playing with other artists both in the studio and on stage. In 2004, Dave Mason was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a member of Traffic with bandmates Steve Winwood, Jim Capaldi, and (posthumously) Chris Wood. It was an overdue honor.
